5 Things We Know On A Sunday – From Anthems To Mexican Food, Procrastination To Success Plus A New Slogan For Lubbock

5 Things We Know On A Sunday

  1. The better question, I think, is why WOUDN’T you want to play the National Anthem before a large gathering or sporting event?
  2. It’s impressive the things I can find to do when I don’t want to write a column. Unfortunately I’ve run out of laundry and the dishes are clean. Maybe it is time to re-do my 90-day dry erase calendar….
  3. Top 3 Mexican food dishes at Lubbock area restaurants? This one is actually for y’all to tell us about your favorite dishes and where you get them. From fajitas to carne guisada, tacos to enchiladas and more. Give us your Three Best/Favorites in and around Lubbock. Let’s expand our menu options in 2021! (Big Grande at Chilito Pepper in Wolfarth by the way needs to be on someone’s list!)
  4. You can learn a lot about folks by how the view successful people. Are they resentful and disdainful of high-achievers or do they respect them and try to learn from them. Surround yourself by the right kind of folks. Observe how they view success.
  5. Lubbock’s Chamber of Commerce announced this past week it is looking to “rebrand” the city and is seeking a new slogan. I’m not sure I know the slogan of any city nor do I care. Has anyone ever moved a family or a business to a city because of a slogan? I get marketing a city, but how about focusing on the things that allow you to effectively market? Maybe start with lowering city debt, lowing tax rates and stopping appraisal creep, improving inner-city schools and focusing on infrastructure and needs instead of dog parks and splash pads. Now that, you can market.

  1. The Perfect Mexican Meal in Lubbock
    Appetizer:
Chips and Salsa from MamaRita’s. The chips are delightful and you can make a bad choice with the salsa. I recommend Snakebite.
    Main Course:
The Fajita Trio at Abuelos. The steak and shrimp just delightful and the power move is go with rice and papas for the sides.

  2. Chips and queso for starter from Albarans, with a side cup of the habanero sauce
I know this sounds crazy but last time at the caboose the relleno and the guisada was spot on
Desert has to go with the tres leches cake from plaza
