5 Things We Know On A Sunday – From Dr. Seuss To Snoopy, Texas Opening Up To Small-Town Baseball Plus Some Southern Rock

5 Things We Know On A Sunday

Brought to you in part by Premier Sportsplex in Lubbock. The Game is ON!

  1. In all my days of living, it never occurred to me that any characters in any of the Dr. Seuss books were actual, real people that I was supposed to acknowledge beyond whimsical creations in a fictional world of fantasy and fun. I guess I was too stupid to be offended or realize I was being “indoctrinated with hate”. I just thought I was reading fun books. . .
  2. No matter your views on Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s decision to “open” up Texas this coming Wednesday, you can still go about your life and running your private business just the way you have been. Now, though, rational adults have a choice. It’s called Freedom and Personal Responsibility. It works.
  3. Top 3 Southern Rock Songs: No. 3. “I Know A Little” Lynyrd Skynard. No. 2. “Midnight Rider” Allman Brothers Band. No. 1. “Can’t You See” Marshall Tucker Band.
  4. If you want to have a fun afternoon and feel good about life, go to a small-town West Texas high school baseball game. For the first time as long as anyone can recall, baseball is back in Ropseville, complete with a brand-new park. Saturday was the home-opener and it was the social even of the early Spring. Come on by. We’ll even let you tailgate beyond the outfield fence.
  5. Just saw where that Apple TV network bunch is creating new Charlie Brown cartoons. Uh, no thanks. Charles Schulz passed on in 2000. All the Peanuts stories have been written that ever need to be written. We’re good.

  1. ok, maybe 1 minor addendum.

I know it’s a cliche but I do love me some “Freebird”

You push play and you’re commercial free for a good 3 1/2 hours.

  2. 1. Happiness isn’t complicated. When you let go of your wish/desire for more money, more things or more approval…and just do little things that seem meaningless or mundane, you’ll discover just how much happier you can be, just by accomplishing one of those little things. We painted a door, yesterday, and couldn’t stop looking at it or thinking about it, even after we went to bed. We painted a door. That’s it.

    2. No matter your views on Gov. Abbott’s announcement on masks and re-opening Texas… we have a responsibility, in life, to respect those who chose to wear a mask, and those who choose to not wear a mask. If you can’t respect my decision, don’t expect others to respect yours.

    3. MY top 3 southern rock songs; 1. Can’t You See – Marshall Tucker Band, 2. No Way Out – Allman Brothers, 3. Simple Man, Lynyrd Skynyrd

    4. If you feel like we’re sort of… picking up where we left off, a year ago… we are. And it’s awesome. We’re watching baseball, with actual fans in the stands. Even if there are only a few hundred fans in attendance…their cheers, jeers and applause are a thousand times better than broadcast recordings piped in over the PA system… and it’s wonderful.

    5. Sequels are often overrated. Seldom underrated. The bad ones often can’t even be watched. Back to the Future III, Beverly Hills Cop III are prime examples. Avoid them. Avoid them with all your might. Trust me.

      • For the record, I got the name of the Allman Brothers song incorrect. It’s “One Way Out.”
I believe the 80s version of Jefferson Starship…”Starship”… the highly commercialized, radio friendly, poppy version… played “No Way Out.”

        My bad.
