SWC Week 5 Rankings – Party like it’s 1989!

1. TCU (4-0)

Last Week: Bye Week ; This Week: West Virginia

TCU has Gameday in Fort Worth as they host West Virginia. The Frogs have had two weeks to prepare for this game and Patterson and TCU are an amazing 17-0 at home when ranked in the Top 10.

2. Texas Tech (3-1)

Last Week: Lost to Oklahoma State 41-34; This Week: Kansas, 11am FS1

Great throwback threads. Great crowd. Just not enough to topple the Cowboys at home. With KU coming up we should see this team and more importantly this defense overwhelm inferior opponents like this week.

3. Texas A&M (4-1)

Last Week: Beat South Carolina 24-17; This Week: Alabama, 6:15 ESPN

The Aggies four-game winning streak was nice while it lasted, but an Alabama team that put 66 on Ole Miss last week.

4. Texas (2-2)

Last Week: Beat Iowa State 17-7; This Week: K-State 6pm FS1

The Horns earned a victory over ISU this past week and here’s one amazing stat for you. Since giving up 51 to Maryland at home to start the season the Horns have only given up 34 points total in three games.

5. Houston (3-1)

Last Week: Beat Temple 20-13; This Week: SMU 6pm CBS SN

Cougar High still haven’t found a groove offensively this season under Major Applewhite running the show. Defensively they’re still one of the best units around. The matchup with SMU this week looks amazing.

6. SMU (4-1)

Last Week: Beat UConn 49-28; This Week: at Houston 6pm CBS SN

The Ponies are flying high offensively and executing the Chad Morris scheme to perfection. A win over the Cougs will propel SMU towards the postseason and to the AAC West title race.

7. Arkansas (2-2)

Last Week: Beat New Mexico State 42-24 ; This Week: at South Carolina 3pm SECN

Arkansas needs this game against an opponent of equal stature and talent level. I wonder how long it will be until Arkansas stops putting up with excuses and get a new coach.

8. Rice (1-4)

Last Week: lost to Pitt 42-10; This Week: Army 5:30pm

Usually I would pencil in a W for Rice if they were playing West Point, but they’re actually, surprisingly decent this season and Rice is hot garbage.

9. Baylor (0-5)

Last Game: Lost to Kansas State 33-20; This Week: Bye Week

Baylor has a week off from their drudgery of five straight losses before heading to Stillwater in two weeks. Also, they kicked more players off the team. Honest question here: Will an 0-12 season be more detrimental than getting the Death Penalty?

Craft Beer of the Week: Oktoberfest from Bohemian Brewery, Salt Lake City

As Oktoberfest continues we have another beautiful selection coming from the Wasatch Front. I was pleasantly surprised by the hoppy taste of this brew and how it paired nicely with a smoked brisket. You can also pair Tex Mex with it and have a good meal.
