It’s a big day for Texas Tech Athletics and a game changer for college sports. The announcement coming out of Lubbock today has shaken college sports to its core as national observers try to come to grips with what it means going forward.

On Tuesday, April 1, Texas Tech is announcing a new NIL initiative that will involve Hollywood, the Oil and Gas industry and West Texas beef producers.

“We’re excited to unite all three of our major supporters when it comes to NIL and supporting Texas Tech athletes. We’re long known for oil in West Texas and of course we’ve got a lot of gas”, said the Tech official. “Add in the increasing growth of cheesy online shows and made up stuff being created about our area and we couldn’t say no!”

It appears that Texas Tech “student-athletes” will now be appearing in a Made-For-Not-TV Series that revolves around a broke cotton farmer who finds oil on his land in West Texas. The show will track the cotton farmer turned millionaire as he adapts to actually paying for new trucks each year in cash and going on vacations as far away as Hobbs, New Mexico and Durant, Oklahoma. The working title of the series we’ve learned is, “Cotton Strippers Gone Wild – The West Texas Diaries”.

Unconfirmed reports have world-renowned director, producer and man with a great haircut; Taylor Sheridan opting in for the first season, as long as he can get the right to produce all of Texas Tech Football’s opening video montages at Jones Stadium. This is developing but we hear Texas Tech officials are reluctant to agree, fearing Beth Dutton’s character might have to be involved and would require a beverage stipend. Again. Developing.

As for the impact on Texas Tech NIL funding, national figures have already chimed in saying this could be the revenue stream that vaults Texas Tech past Texas, Alabama, Ohio State and Austin Peay.

“You’ve got your players on streaming services, you’ve got something called Cotton Strippers and you’ve probably got something like a sports drink sponsorship called Stripper Juice.. who knows what they’ll do. The rest of college sports is reacting to what Texas Tech is doing…. they’re afraid of what’s next from West Texas,” said a national NIL observer who may or may not live in a trailer.

Again, this is a developing story today and Tech officials are reluctant to say more than what they’ve said. One thing that is obvious., Texas Tech is willing to embrace anything and everything that will drive them into the elite circles of NIL and at the very least, make sure they never lose another game to Kansas State as long as Kirby Hocutt is in charge.
