5 Things We Know On A Sunday

  1. “If it’s the ultimate game, how come they’re playing it again next year?”. – Former West Texas State and Dallas Cowboys RB, Duane Thomas, on the importance of the Super Bowl. Thomas, who was drew scorn and derision from media and fans in the early 1970s makes a great point about how we often misplace not our priorities but the importance of certain events. The Super Bowl IS the ultimate game, but only for one year. We need to remember that as we grow and change what was Ultimate at one time is relegated down our list of important values later. I certainly hope what the Ultimate thing in my life when I was in my teens, twenties and later isn’t the Ultimate thing in my life now. So, it’s great for things to be important, perspective is even more important. By the way, if you’re wondering, I picked the Rams over the Bengals 30-23 . …
  2. If you haven’t had a baked potato stuffed with sauteed mushrooms and red onion, you’re missing out. That’s the great thing about a baked potato, it’s happy to welcome other food friends to the party!
  3. Top 3 Super Bowl Half-Time Shows That Never Happened: No. 3. The Clash with Joe Ely. No. 2. Morris Day And The Time actually do Battle Of The Bands with Prince. Winner gets Apollonia and all-time rights to Purple Rain money. No. 1. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones bets his ownership of the team on Black, spins roulette wheel. If it lands on Red, Jones goes to phone book, flips to white pages for any city in Texas and the first person to answer is new owner of the Dallas Cowboys.
  4. I don’t really do Super Bowl parties any more. It’s not them, it’s me. That said, if you’re at a Super Bowl party and they don’t have Lil’ Smokies in a crockpot, turnaround and walk out the door. It’s not gonna be good. Also, if you’re at a Super Bowl party and they have music on and not game-sound; you’re not at a Super Bowl party. You’re at an excuse to call-in sick to work on Monday. Beware!
  5. The Super Bowl should be on Saturday. Saturday can be Super too.
