
5 Things We Know On A Sunday
- Fact. Every Major League Baseball team should be playing at double-header on July 4th, with it timed to end with a massive fireworks show. Hot dogs should be a dollar, cokes 75 cents and cold beer a $1.25. Everyone under 12 should get a plastic batting helmet that they can get filled up with either ice cream or nachos, their choice for FREE. This should happen every 4th of July.
- Bruce Springsteen’s “Born In The USA” isn’t a patriotic song, so don’t fall into the trap of singing it this week. Looking for a much better song? Chuck Berry’s “Back in the USA” will knock your socks off. Unabashed Love Song to America!
- The United States certainly isn’t a perfect country. No country is, has been or ever will be. That said, most of the most important sentences that describes the greatness of America is right at the start of the U.S. Constitution: “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” – For 250 years Americans have constantly worked to create a More Perfect Union. If you can’t get behind that concept, you’ll never find a country you’ll love.
- I’m lucky enough to have been just old enough to have great memories of 1976 and the Bicentennial Summer. Coming off the hang-over of the Vietnam War, America desperately needed a reason to celebrate and feel proud again. I was too young to understand completely they “why” behind that emotion at the time; but it was real. For America 250, it feels like we have so many more things to celebrate and be happy about in the moment. Almost to the point some folks are nonchalant about 250 years of American Exceptionalism. I suppose that’s a good thing…
- To be born in America, during this time in world history is one of the greatest gifts you’ve ever been given. Appreciate it and be openly thankful and grateful to God that he has given you this gift.
