Texas Tech Basketball Entering the Championship Rounds of the Regular Season
Basketball teams, good and bad, adopt the ethos and personality of their coaches and leaders.
There’s ample evidence after 21 games that the current version of Texas Tech Basketball has adopted the characteristics of Mark Adams on the court.
The last nine months for Red Raider Basketball brought some credible doubt when the most successful coach in program leaves for a rival on what is best described as a lateral move to Austin.
The hiring of Mark Adams quelled much of the doubts for much of the fan base. The past six weeks have proven to the rest of the college basketball world that this team always has a puncher’s chance.
It’s been a street fight in Madison Square Garden against Tennessee, fighting with an arm behind their backs against Iowa State in Ames, or battling back on the road with multiple double-digit comebacks against Baylor and Kansas.
The tenacious defense played game in and game out has traveled to every court this season. The adjusted Ken Pomeroy defensive rating for Tech is currently 3rd in the nation after a 76-50 dismantling of Mississippi State and tops in the Big 12 Conference.
The upcoming game against Texas will prove to be a rock fight early on with the Longhorns boasting a defense rated 9th nationally by KenPom.com as of Saturday night’s games.
Can the Red Raiders make a run towards the Big 12 Championship and set themselves up for a multi weekend stay in the NCAA Tournament? It all starts on Tuesday.
