Welcome back again to the show that never ends… The Saturday column with no name. Sometimes sports, sometimes not. If you’ve got a great name for the column, we’re all ears. Fire away in the comment section below when you sound-off our our 3 Points today.
- After talking about it on The Daily Broadcast Friday night, I’m convinced now more than ever that the best format for the Final Four is a Friday night/Sunday evening schedule. We get hooked on the NCAA Tournament being on Thursday and Friday nights for two weeks, then they take it away from us. I’m telling ya, by Monday night, I really have moved on a lot of years when it comes to college basketball. The Masters is waiting for us, we’ve got MLB and for degenerates like me who still watch… NASCAR is cranking it up. But, give me a Friday night of two great games and knowing I can watch the title game Sunday then go to bed and get on with the week… ya. I’m in. The old media thinking that you have to have Monday night for a “Prime Time” window is outdated. Things have changed. Finally, if Monday night at 8PM Central is so great, why isn’t the Super Bowl played then? Let’s make the push, Raiderland Folks! Friday/Sunday Final Four for the win!
- It’s crazy, but we’re rooting for Houston tonight in Raiderland. Actually, it’s not crazy. We’d root for nearly any team against Duke. That said, the Big 12 needs this win. The Big 12 needs continued validation at every level in any and all sports that actually generate money and matter on the college landscape. Men’s basketball still matters. So, Go Cougars. As we write this, the Sharp Money has moved in on Houston, driving down the spread to Duke -4.5. We’ll roll with that and take the under is the Duke/Houston game @136.5. The Alamo Dome is a wretched shooting backdrop. Don’t be shocked to see all three games there be played to the under. If you got Houston at -5 or better, good for you. It’ll be snug, but we think UH takes this one outright. Go Houston. Go Big 12! Avenger the SWC and the UH losses in 1983, 1984. Hit some free throws this time around, Cougars !
- It snowed in Lubbock today, postponing Texas Tech Baseball vs Cincy until Sunday with a DH scheduled. This is probably the best thing to happen to Tech Baseball all season. This team is a grease-fire right now, giving away another game Friday with a T9 meltdown… This team needs a rainout as bad as the Durham Bulls did in 1988. For Tech fans, it’s been a long time since you couldn’t count on a Tim Tadlock team to give you great baseball. Actually, he’s given you that for over a decade now for the most part. So the questions become, the rest of the year…. what’s wrong, can it be fixed, can it be fixed this season and if not; what needs to change for 2026? I don’t have the answers. And I don’t know that those inside the program do either right now. Either way, Texas Tech AD Kirby Hocutt will give Tadlock great latitude to get things right. And Hocutt should. Tadlock has earned it as much as any coach at Texas Tech in recent history. Only Wes Kittley has more skins on the wall at Tech than Tadlock. So, for the record, we say Tadlock should return next year, NO Matter What. He’s earned it.
OK, there’s a few thoughts on a Saturday. Fire away with your thoughts and whatnot in the comments and then be sure and share this with your friends. We’ll see you Sunday with our aptly named 5 Things We Know On A Sunday column. Thanks for being out there, stay warm and Pray For Rain! – Hyatt
