5 Things We Know On A Sunday
- There’s not much more quiet than a house when the electricity goes out. We get so used to so much noise, when it’s gone… it’s attention getting. We lost power a few times Saturday night as the storms rumbled around West Texas. It made me wonder what it was like for the early settlers out here, no electricity, no noise, just the sound of the Llano Estacado… the wind, the rain, the thunder and then at times… just silence. Can’t imagine how big it must have made this land feel. I think…it’s a good thing when God shows up now and again to remind us just how small we are….
- It’s more than fine to listen to Christmas music right now if you want to. Don’t let the Legalists bring you down by saying we have to “observe” Thanksgiving first. Fact. You can be Thankful for Christmas music and enjoy it for weeks or months on end. Beware the Stealers of Joy who act in the name of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is not an end unto itself…. It’s an action. They truly don’t understand the concept of what we are Thankful for!
- Top 3 Dead Presidents To Drink A Beer With: No. 3. Abraham Lincoln. If any president needed a beer, and we are told he enjoyed one now and again, it’s Lincoln. No. 2. Ronald Reagan. Just because I want to hang out with Reagan. Don’t care if he has a beer or not. He did go to the Daytona 500 in 1984 and eat KFC with Richard Petty, so I figure we could have a beer and talk about killing off the Soviet Union. No. 1. Franklin Pierce. Not one of most well-known folks to ever be President, but he pretty much summed up his world-view with this quote. “What can an ex-president of the United States do except get drunk”. That’s probably the President you’d like to have a beer with. He knew the proper role of any former President. Shut up and get the hell out of the way…
- We used to watch Saturday Night Live for the Weekend Update and laugh at their crazy take on the news. Now we watch the “real” news and have to laugh at the crazy way the “major” networks try to convince you what they’re showing you is real and unfiltered. Fact. SNL did it better. Bring back Dennis Miller and Norm McDonald.
- No matter what happens this coming Tuesday, you’ll still have to get up and go to work on Wednesday. Your kids will still need to get up and go to school. No matter who may be sitting in the Oval Office come January, you’ll still control you and your family’s fate and direction. Vote. Do all you can for your candidate and party to win, but never forget that God gives you self-determination and the ability to overcome nearly anything man sets before you. So, I hope your chosen politicians win this week. I hope more that you decide to not rely on politicians, of any stripe, to determine your life and your future. You are created better than that.
