Well. That was quite a MONDAY wasn’t it…
We woke up thinking the day would be dominated by a look at where the Texas Tech Baseball program is and what needs to happen going forward. By the end of lunch we were looking at the Texas Tech Football program wondering what will happen going forward. As we often say, there’s the show you plan and the show you get.
By now most are aware that Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby has left the team to enter a gambling rehab program for an unknown amount of time. We’ll have plenty of links below on all of the stories and we hit on nearly everything last night on The Daily Broadcast so go back and give it a watch.
Tonight, we’ll talk about the idea of whether Texas Tech can survive without Sorsby this fall. What if we said they could still thrive, even without Sorsby? If Sorsby is ruled ineligible following what should be a fairly quick NCAA investigation into his days at Indiana, how much does that impact the season win total and ceiling for Texas Tech?
Can the Red Raiders cobble together early wins with Tulsa transfer QB Kirk Francis or even the young Lloyd Jones III while waiting on dynamic but injured Will Hammond to return? It’s more than possible. The two toughest challenges would be Houston in week three and then Arizona State in Lubbock as well on Oct. 17. Even if Texas Tech get through that stretch with just one loss, that’s not horrific and could happen anyways as the Red Raiders once again blend in a ton of new faces on offense and defense….
If you’re Texas Tech, you have to proceed from here that you won’t have Sorsby. If you get him back, great. But you can’t sit around and hope and wait and wonder. Everything about this program from now forward has to be about getting Francis ready to go.
We’ll discuss all of that plus look at how Oklahoma is ducking Texas Tech Baseball tonight by cancelling the scheduled non-con game in Frisco tonight due to “expected weather”. I’m old enough to remember when we waited for the “actual weather” but what do I know…
