The Saturday Column With No Name
- Make no mistake, if Texas Tech Football has great success this coming fall after a year of hitting the portal and making solid N.I.L. commitments; the reaction will be the exact same as we’re seeing from the College Softball “Entitleds” when it comes to what Tech is doing in the portal there with N.I.L. You see, some schools aren’t supposed to achieve. Some schools aren’t supposed to have money and use it the way the “Entitleds” have done over the decades. It was a Country Club and Texas Tech isn’t supposed to be a part of it. Texas Tech is allowed to park cars and serve drinks at the Country Club, but don’t dare go inside and try to be a part of the Members… One of the things that is telling to me is how many so-called Women’s Sports Backers don’t like the idea of Texas Tech rewarding women for being good at sports. Again, only certain schools are allowed to do that… It’s a great time for college athletes and in particular women. Get all you can, while you can. If any fan-base doesn’t like it, get out your wallet and show us how much your really love women’s sports, or athletes in general. Once again… It ain’t no fun, when the Rabbit’s got the Gun.
- Golf is hard. Texas Tech great Ludvig Aberg missed the cut at the U.S. Open Friday at Oakmont. He’s not alone with a lot of great golfers. We suspected he might struggle this week, and not just because of the course set-up. Aberg will be fine, but he’s in a stretch this year where he’s just not putting together complete rounds and able to go low that often. It happens. So, let the golf world sleep on Aberg for a bit, then back him big in later events this summer. As an aside, one of the great things about Aberg being from Sweden….it doesn’t take long to find his flag scrolling on the leaderboard. Another win for us! So, who takes this year’s U.S. Open as we write on this Saturday Afternoon… We’ll take Adam Scott and Viktor Hovland to duel it out Sunday on the back nine. Don’t hold it against me if they both blow-up though!!! Golf is hard.
- When Texas Tech Baseball returns to the College World Series in Omaha, you can make one certain bet. Whatever record exist for Jello Shots at Rocco’s will fall and fall quickly. The Red Raider faithful will absolutely destroy anything Arkansas or LSU puts up. They’ll be so thirsty after an Omaha drought it will look like cotton crops drinking in a rain! Kudos to Rocco’s for what they’ve created at the CWS. A ton of money raised for the Omaha Food Bank, lots of fun and remember; there’s always room for Jello…
Have a great Saturday and we’ll see you Sunday for our 5 Things We Know Column!
