5 Things We Know On A Sunday
- I’m not a big deserts and sweets kinda guy, but I could eat homemade vanilla ice cream once a week during the summer. It needs to be made in those old 1960s/70s leaky wooden barrel things. You put in the ice, some rock salt, cranked it up and got told every few minutes as a kid to leave it alone… If you know, you know! It’s interesting. I don’t remember ever having any flavor but vanilla…

2. Baseball on the radio is still infinitely better than baseball on TV. It always will be. I hate the teams now that will cut costs and just dump the TV play-by-play on radio and think it works. It doesn’t. By the way, if the Rangers are stinking it up and not scoring any runs, throw this on and take a trip back in time. You might recognize the future Hall of Fame announcer, and the old opening music is awesome!
3. It boggles my mind that there are no city owned public swimming pools in Lubbock. Are pools like that just relics from the past? Has Lubbock grown too big to swim? Do folks even care? Don’t get me started on “Splash Pads”. Might as well just open up the fire hydrants and let the kids play in the street. . .
4. Anytime you think America is slipping or not a great country, allow me to remind y’all that you can turn on you TV and watch Professional Bass Fishing most every weekend and more. The ChiComs Don’t Fish For Bass.
5. If they re-released The Cannon Ball Run into theaters this week, it would instantly be the best movie of the summer. Released on June 19, 1981, you simply could not recreate this movie today. We don’t have nearly enough stars. Not even close. I can’t and don’t want to imagine what the cast would look like. And then the list of “offended parties” would be so long, no studio would touch it. Thank you Hal Needham and Burt Reynolds. . .
