5 Things We Know On A Sunday

  1. Kids today get cheated out of a lot of great experiences. Snow Days. Now, they just check their phone and wait for the text to let them know they can roll over and go back to sleep. Heck some schools around Lubbock this past week were cancelling classes in the afternoon, before the next day. Kids miss out on the excitement of waking up, turning on the TV and waiting for their school’s name to slowly scroll across the bottom of the screen. The dreaded “On-Time” would sometimes show up. “Delayed Start” was a little better. But it was pure joy when “All Classes Cancelled” scrolled by. And remember, buses will “run on pavement only!”.
  2. I have two or three rolls of undeveloped film in my desk. No telling what’s on them. I used to do a lot of photography. Now I take pictures on a phone. Progress I suppose. Anyone out there have any idea if there’s a business that still develops Kodak film around Lubbock, West Texas?
  3. Top 3 Under-Appreciated Bands/Artists: No. 3. Fleetwood Mac. You know all the words to about 15 of their songs and you don’t realize it. No. 2. Duran Duran. “Rio” is maybe not even in their top 10 of songs. Let that sink in. No.1. KISS. You wanted the best, you got the best! Basic, straight-ahead rock. And of course, four dudes in music and costumes. Something for everyone.
  4. It’s been 11 years since the Green Bay Packers beat the Steelers to win the Super Bowl. Since then, I’ve more or less been a man without an NFL team. As time went by, I was less and less enthused by the Packers, the Post-Favre Era for me held little emotional attachment. Now, I feel nothing when I watch Green Bay. Losing two weeks ago to San Francisco at Lambeau Field would have been a reason to put up a black wreath at the house 20 years ago. Now I was upset cause I missed my prediction on the radio show…The closest I have to a “team” now is Kansas City, and that’s obviously because of Patrick Mahomes. Even when they lose, it doesn’t sting, I just feel bad for Mahomes. What it boils down to? The Ropes Eagles and #66 are my team now. 100%.
  5. Regular readers of this column know that I number all my socks. That way they always match-up, I can keep them straight and they hardly ever go missing. Scandal and intrigue around the house this week as I had to give in and admit that 3 pairs of my socks had missing mates. They of course have now been relegated to becoming dust rags. They will live on and contribute to society. Still, this is most disturbing to have happen on my watch. Largest loss of socks in a short amount of time in several years. I am curious if any of you other fine folks out there label clothing like this. If not, why not? I’m also dangerously close to having to buy new socks. Mine have to be nearly knee-high since I hate the feel of my boot tops on bare skin. As you can see, we got a lot going on here. Taking suggestions on best boot-length socks. Go.

  1. 1 – I remember that. Soon as we saw “All Classes Cancelled” we ran outside to play! 2 – I haven’t had to develop film in years, but I definitely remember dropping them by the 1 hour photo huts. 3 – My top 3 were Metallica, Megadeth, and Iron Maiden. 4 – I’m a Panther fan so SB 38 and 50 will be all I see probably, sadly. 5 – Haven’t tagged clothing since basic training, which was a long time ago … LOL.

Good stuff as always and take care. #GoGators

  2. No. 4 resonates with me. I like watching the Chiefs since my Cowboys Apostasy, but it doesn’t impact my mood or joy.
