Happy Monday, Y’all !
Good morning and here’s to everyone not eating Belgian Waffles this morning!
Before the unbridled excitement that is Big 12 Media Days starts this week, we get compelling sports. We get the United States against Belgium in World Cup round of 16 play tonight up in Seattle. Being in Seattle it’s almost like a true home game for the USMNT. . . If they wanted this to be a great home field advantage it should have been here in Texas or somewhere in the South. Doesn’t matter if the fans know soccer or not. They know America!
So this morning it’s pancakes or breakfast tacos.

No waffles today for all Americans. If you see someone eating anything that looks close to a Belgian Waffle, politely but firmly take it away from them, offer to pay for their meal and provide them with a real American Breakfast Food. Like Cap’n Crunch or Wheaties.
In all seriousness, we’re thankful for the World Cup and the USMNT for giving us great and compelling sports drama this time of year. Here’s hoping they can keep it going. Now that President Donald Trump leveraged FIFA to give us back Folarin Balogun there’s no stopping the U.S.
Meanwhile, back at the Big 12 Media Days. A vestige from the past when we didn’t have internet and the ability to interview anyone, anytime, anywhere with technology, Conference Media Days roll on. It’s good excuse for the drunken sports writers and lazy weekend TV reporters to get out of town and drink on someone else’s dime. Will any news be made? No. That’s not the point. The point is to allow Big 12 Commissioner to stand up for a few minutes and tell everyone how solid the league is, how it’s the best it’s ever been and to totally ignore the fact the league is suing Texas Tech. Pay no attention to that. What’s that? Big 12 ADs like Jamie Pollard at Iowa State want Tech to pay all the legal bills? Naw… let’s talk about bitcoin and rappers at half-time shows.
Welcome to Big 12 Media Days.
Maybe we’ll be shocked and actually get some newsworthy moments out of the deal. Otherwise, we’ll be left with this gem from Mike Leach compliments of KAMC 28 Sports Director David Collier:
