The Saturday Column With No Name (Insert Name Here)

  1. I’m more and more convinced that college sports will operate under the same “rules” regarding NIL and transfer portal for the next year as they do right now. Texas Tech has done a great job in this era of “undefined, let’s see what the courts say” randomness. I don’t think the “House Settlement” is going to happen anytime soon. So, if you’re Texas Tech, the Matador Club and any donors… just keep doing what you’re doing. I like this era a lot more than the previous 50-75 years in college sports. I know what Tech did during that time frame. Now Tech has a shot to do something different. And this time, it’s legal. So, keep spending money like a drunken sailor if you’ve got it and in the mean time, dare the NCAA to do something about it. In the words of Wyatt Earp in the movie “Tombstone”… I don’t think I’ll let you arrest us today.
  2. Speaking of movies, after careful review, the soundtrack for “Saturday Night Fever” has stood the test of time. Disco Inferno should be played at any and all American sporting events going forward. If you haven’t listened to it in years, go back and tell me I’m wrong. If you on the younger side of life, and have never seen the movie or heard the soundtrack, do yourself a favor and download it tonight. You’ll thank us. Bonus… the movie is still a great glimpse in time of the mid-70s….
  3. I’m growing tired of saying, “If Josh Jung can just stay healthy….” So stay healthy Josh and let’s see what the Summer Of Josh could look like for the Texas Rangers. With a solid start to the season for the Rangers, I’m trying not to get my hopes up. I’ve been doing this Rangers thing for too many decades now. Forgive me for trepidations…. even after 2023’s magical post-season run. I’ll be humble and just ask for healthy Josh. We’ll go from there. . .
