The Saturday Column With No Name
- If ESPN really wants to explode both College Baseball and Softball it’s pretty simple. Show more regular season games. ESPN has 18 channels…or so it seems. Invest in the sport from February to May and see what happens. You can have the “RedZone” style channel each Saturday during the regular season. Both college baseball and softball have grown beyond “regional sports”. If they can put ax throwing on… I think they could do more with softball and baseball. The conferences should demand better from their Championship TV partners. Don’t ask, don’t get. I put it on the schools as much as ESPN. . . I’d much rather watch a great Big 12 or SEC game than the Mariners vs White Sox on a Tuesday night!
- Speaking of the SEC, watching them defense how great their football conference is this week makes me wonder who they’re trying to convince…. Have the Networks told them they want more conference games if they’re gonna keep paying the freight? Why so defensive? If the SEC is really all that, why do they have to justify their 8-game conference schedule? We all know the answers.
- I love seeing Texas Tech as the Great Disruptor right now in college sports. How dare Cody Campbell and other alums step up and try to elevate all Texas Tech sports! Obviously Texas Tech is a huge threat that must be stopped. Just look at how some College Softball “Blue Bloods” have reacted to Tech being in the CWS. Add in the money spent on football and men’s basketball and the entitled schools can’t handle it. Make no mistake. When Ohio State buys a team, it’s ok. When Texas Tech does it, the system is broken and we need some action from Congress and POTUS. Don’t fall for it.
Enjoy some Texas Tech Softball tonight and we’ll see you Sunday morning with our 5 Things WE Know column.
