Welcome to our new Saturday Feature. Sorta like 5 Things We Know On A Sunday, but this is only three and we will be sports-related. Working on a better title for the column, so if you’ve got some ideas… let us know in the comments below.
Getting ready for Texas Tech and Houston tonight in Big 12 basketball. Two solid teams putting together great NCAA Tournament t resumes right now. Sorta like the 1980s when both were very good. With that as the backdrop… let’s get this going. Enjoy, add your comments and then share with some friends. See ya Sunday morning for our 5 Things Column…
3 Things We Know On A Saturday
- All Super Bowls should kick-off at 3:05 PM Central Time. For the outdoor games, the colors would be much better as we transition from day to twilight and then night time. Just look at the games from the 70s. Beautiful spectacle of color. Bonus is that the game wraps up at decent hour, you can go to friends, have fun, get home and not feel like dreck come Monday. Every body wins. The TV Networks can also show two more shows after the game ends to hook you on wretched programs you’ll never watch because you have Netflix and YouTube TV…
- Early February to a little past Valentine’s Day is the toughest stretch of the season for most college basketball teams. Having travelled for years covering Texas Tech, I can attest to how the mental fatigue sets in right now for teams. Even more than the physical reality of getting beat up for a couple of months now, the mental side weighs down a lot of teams. You feel like the season that has gone on forever, you’re tired of planes and hotels and ice tub baths…. and March feels like a million years away. The teams that handle the first half of February well, they win conferences and they get great seeds in the NCAA Tournament. Pay attention to teams these next 2-3 weeks. They’re the one’s you want to ride in March.
- College Baseball starts up on Valentine’s Day this year. So if you want to know when the winter weather is gonna strike back after warm temps this coming week… now you know. From a Texas Tech standpoint, this isn’t ideal. Texas Tech is set to open the season at North Carolina with a weekend set against national preseason #6 Tar Heels. Looking at the extended forecast, it’s liable to be really cold, with the chance for ice and snow in that part of the world. Not good. Texas Tech really needs this series to happen from an RPI standpoint, even if it’s just the first series of the year. So… pay attention to the weather and hope it moderates out for the Red Raiders and Tim Tadlock.
There ya go. A few things we know on a Saturday. We’ll keep working on a better title and y’all fire away in the comments with your ideas and thoughts. See ya Sunday.
