5 Things We Know On A Sunday
- If you know more about your favorite college or pro teams stats then you know what your kid’s latest grades are in Math and English. . . you’re not doing it right. I fear far too many Dads out there can quote stats for Texas Tech or the Dallas Cowboys than they can name the classes their kid is taking or what their current grades are. So… when you get really fired up about a Texas Tech loss or a Dallas Cowboys win, ask yourself why you aren’t as emotionally invested in your own child’s education accomplishments. Now of course I’m not talking about y’all reading this column… of course we’re talking about other folks… aren’t we… 🙂
- I have a friend whose last name is King. He really hated Saturday. It makes about as much sense to protest him as it does the idea that some Americans think we have a King right now. Our education system is failing or people are willfully stupid when it comes to politics. Take your pick. That said, you know King Charles III had to have a bit of a chuckle this weekend… Now there’s a man who knows how to King it up!
- The Lubbock City Council voted recently to charge folks 50 bucks to have an alarm system. They say they’re trying to curb “false alarms”. So tell me exactly how charging folks 50 dollars for a permit will change false alarms from happening? A great and majestic cash grab by a council that some folks still think is “conservative”…. Coming next, the City of Lubbock will tell folks if they pay a 100 dollar “permit” each year, the fire department will show up faster when you call, otherwise, without you being on the Good List, we’ll get to you when we get to you… Y’all voted for them, Lubbock; y’all can live with the consequences…
- What did we do so wrong as a society that it cost us having an Orange Julius next to Record Town at the Mall? Fact. Orange Julius had highly underrated hot dogs. As for Record Town, no telling how much money I spent there on albums and those little buttons we had to have on our Jean Jackets back in the day…
- For you younger readers, you’ll have to wait a bit to truly understand this nugget… but one day you will. There’s not many things cooler than seeing your friends showing off their first grand baby…Fact. They love their kids and they’re proud of them and they’ve done all they can do for them over the years; but the look on their faces when they show off that grand baby… you can’t capture it. I think, though I am certainly not at that place in my life yet… that part of the joy is knowing that you can love up on the kid, spoil him, keep him awake… and then hand him back to mom and dad and head home knowing you’ll be able to sleep all night; unlike the new mom and dad! It’s an earned enjoyment!
