Welcome back to the Saturday Column With No Name. A column so powerful, it needs no name. Apparently. That and you guys just really haven’t come through with anything great to call it. Isn’t it enough we write it. We have to name it too!

We’ll give you a few quick Saturday thoughts and then you can fire away in the comments and on X and The Raiderland Facebook page. Feel free to share with a few friends and drive the conversation.

  1. Surprise. Arizona…. Texas Tech Baseball and Tim Tadlock ain’t done for 2026 after taking a game at Cincy and Arizona unable to overtake them in the standings. Don’t think a game matters over the season? Tech taking the series over the Wildcats, both former CWS teams in the same year a decade or so ago… mattered. So Texas Tech extends the season. What impressed me the last two weeks with Texas Tech? Not the quality of ball, but the idea this team still competed, tried to win games and acted like they care enough about each other and the program and yes, the coaches; to keep playing as long as they can. That tells me something about the culture and locker room. A lot of guys in this situation would count their money and have their bags packed and be ready for summer ball and their next stop in the world of college baseball. That reflects well on the man who just won his 500th game at Texas Tech. Nothing has changed in the last week since we wrote that Tim Tadlock should be back next year as head coach of Texas Tech Baseball. He’s earned the right to have full scholarships, more NIL and the FULL Public Support of the Texas Tech Administration, Donors and Fans alike. If Tadlock wants to move on, doesn’t enjoy the current landscape of college baseball or feels like he doesn’t have the backing of the school… we get it. He’s earned that right. Either way, Texas Tech plays more baseball next Tuesday at 6:30 Central and we’re glad. Do we understand the fans who want change? Yep. Do we respectfully disagree? Hell yes. So fire away in the comments and on social media. We’re prepared for it. . . In case you’re wondering, we made the same argument at the end of the Larry Hays tenure at Texas Tech… and change was made. And it worked out…so well.
  2. The Brendan Sorsby is really quiet right now. Almost too quiet. The behind the scenes planning must be epic right now at Texas Tech and with Sorsby’s law team. The question to me… is his legal team fighting to come back to Texas Tech or fighting to clear a path to the NFL via the Supplemental Draft with the least resting from Roger Goodell? Handy information to know if you’re Texas Tech HC Joey McGuire. We figure he knows…. So expect some more great video of Will Hammond looking great on his rehab this coming week. Got to keep the markets right regarding expectations….
  3. Serious Question. Why don’t college softball play nine innings? It’s a fast-moving game, the pitchers can throw like 300 pitches a day, you can still have a run-rule if you want after seven innings and fans love the game… Is it time for the vestige of treating women as inferior athletes incapable of playing a “full-game” to end when it comes to college softball? I remember when they wouldn’t let women run a full marathon in the Olympics and the Texas U.I.L. not allowing girls to run the 3,200 meters back in the day… Too strenuous… College Softball is a great game! Give us more drama and play nine!
