5 Things We Know On A Sunday
- What does it say that for the most part, watching an NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Game, that Canadian singers perform the United States National Anthem better and with more respect than 9 out of 10 American singers… They sings it simple, with respect and the way it was designed to be sung. Not as an audition for a record contract… as a National Anthem that a whole Nation can sing together. Thanks Unknown Canadian Singer Guy for doing it right.
- If you want to understand how God created all men and women and made them all unique; a credit to the Creator… all you have to do is drive in the Metroplex. From Weatherford to Grand Prairie on something called an “Interstate” it was bumper to bumper at noon. Construction that will make it better for our great grandchildren certainly made it worse. Add in folks driving who obviously didn’t care whether they survived to the end of the day and we have Big City Progress. So, how does this prove God created all in a unique style? Simple. All of those folks woke up one day and said, “I want to live like this”. And so they do. And we thank God that those folks want to live there, because otherwise they might move out to West Texas and gum up our roads. I’m not sure where they’re going, but it must be really awesome….
- There’s nothing cooler than driving back to West Texas and seeing a Thunderstorm on the horizon. Watching the lightning dance across the sky is like watching God paint a picture in real-time. We’re not talking about tornados and hail…. we’re talking an old-fashioned Thunderstorm. You can see it from a hundred miles away this time of year… like a movie on your windshield… It’s also a great way to keep you and your wife wide-awake on the way home from the Metroplex after a day of travel. When you see a lightning strike hit the ground and just hammer away for 4-5 seconds… that will wake you up! If feel bad for folks who live in parts of the country where they can’t experience a West Texas Thunderstorm over the course of hours… Thanks to Benjamin, Texas last night for letting us take a break for a few minutes from the storm! Your neon sign at the Ranchland was most welcoming on a West Texas Friday Night!
- Ritz Crackers are the most underrated crackers in the cracker realm Trust us. Get some today. Then, put some peanut butter on them. Then put some cheese on them. Then crumble them and put them on a casserole or something like that. Then just eat one. We have forgotten about the Ritz Cracker I fear. It’s not fancy, but it gets things done. It’s like the old Fullback in football. Not pretty, but makes it happen. The Ritz Cracker is the Daryl “Moose” Johnston of crackers.
- If you’re ever asked, if you’re ever privileged enough to be in a position to speak at a funeral… do it. Trust us. It’s one of the most intimidating, most stressful and most emotional things you’ll ever do. But if you’re ever honored enough be a family, even your own, to speak at the celebration of a loved one… do it. You’ll be scared, you’ll be emotional and you’ll hate nearly every minute of it… And that’s OK. But, when God grants you that moment to share your feelings, thoughts and love for another person; you’ll be so glad you did. I want to thank the family of my friend Chad Hasty for allowing me a few minutes Friday to tell folks why I thought Chad was special. I know I could have gone on and on, but I pray that God gave me the words for just a few minutes to give folks a glimpse of the fine man, son, husband and Christian who Chad was. I’ve spoken at more funerals than I wish I had over the years. Each time I am reminded when I’m done that the words I spoke were not mine. They were borrowed. They was given to me by God, kind enough to let me use for a few minutes to celebrate one of His children. If you were listening Chad, I understand why you might have wanted a rebuttal!
