Happy Tuesday, Y’all !
Sometimes you get at the destination you were always going to, it just takes a long and winding road. . .
That’s the way the Brendan Sorsby Saga at Texas Tech feels after the last six weeks or so. We said early on in May that we felt like the result would be Sorsby applying to the NFL’s supplemental draft and that’s exactly what happened late Monday. It just took a few crazy twists, turns, threats of lawsuits and litigation and not just a little local and national pressure.
And money. Always money.
We don’t even have the time this morning to go through everything that transpired on Monday. You kept up with the looming threats from the Big 12 conference as well as a few state AGs. like we did. I was thinking this would spur the NCAA’s appeal in Amarillo to be sped up to sometime today or tomorrow for the clarity needed for Sorsby to go to the NFL, but we didn’t have to wait.
So here we are.
This looks like the end of it from a Texas Tech perspective. Sorsby gets his money, avoids a total financial hit by going to the NFL and Tech moves on with the Super-Rehaber Will Hammond at QB.
But what about the NCAA? Is it really over for the NCAA with the court ruling just still hanging out there that they can’t enforce the biggest rule in the rule book? That didn’t chance yesterday and it will be interesting from a legal angle to see what happens next on that front. That still matters greatly to the NCAA going forward. And for any players in the future looking to challenge any and all eligibility rulings.
