5 Things We Know On A Sunday

1. Nothing re-affirms your faith in kids more than hearing a small school graduation ceremony. The honesty and clarity they speak with is hard to find these days. Here’s to Reed Hyatt and his classmates at Ropes and the grads of 2024. Thank you to each and every speaker for being strong enough to embrace and employ Scripture in your message. Not easy to do these days. . . Y’all did it right and the future is bright. I wish every kid could have a graduation ceremony like y’all had on Friday.
2. Most of the folks upset with what Kansas City Chiefs PK Harrison Butker had to say last week would never pay attention to what he has to say anyhow. He gave a great message to a willing and embracing audience, did it away from the filed, away from the NFL cameras and away from the NFL sponsors. That the NFL felt they had to distance themselves from what he had to say tells you all you need to know about a league that has no problem employing and promoting abusers of women and other law-breakers. . . The best thing Butker did… he exposed the hypocrisy of a league and of so many gutless wonders who rally behind Free Speech, as long as it dove-tails to their political ideology. Even better, he got his message out far beyond just a simple graduation speech at a small school. Good job, Butker!
3. Usually we do a “Top 3” ranking here. Today we will do a Top One. Best Movie Theater In Lubbock That No Longer Exists: The Winchester Twin at 50th and Indiana. Pretty sure I saw Return Of The Jedi there, and the last thing I saw was a midnight showing of Monty Python And The Holy Grail… In between.. a ton of movies and dates and whatnot. The Winchester was cool. Most movie places were not…. hope you got to see a movie at a cool theater. BTW… 2nd place, not in Lubbock would be the old movie house, not sure if it’s still there, in Pampa, Texas. Saw “Hunt For Red October” there in 90…. What ever it was called, it was a throwback theater!

5. I don’t want to ruffle any feathers, don’t want to make anyone mad, but I don’t think there’s a great steakhouse, a signature “gotta go there when you’re in town”, steakhouse in Lubbock. Got a lot great BBQ places over the last few years. Heck, all of a sudden Lubbock has a ton of places for seafood, and most of them solid-good. But when it comes to a signature steakhouse…. in an area you’d think it would be easy to have three or four great ones, I submit to you that Lubbock does not have that steakhouse. Again, feel free to disagree. I don’t want to start no fights, but …. in 2024, the steak landscape is average at best. There… we said it. Fire away….
