Happy Thursday, Y’all !
Let’s start the day giving great respect to the United States Men’s National Team taking down Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-0 last night. They did it a man down after a brutal red card was shown to star player Folarin Balogun. Not sure, but we think he might be from Muleshoe. . .
The red card means he’s also suspended for the next match on Monday in Seattle against Belgium.
The red card is also frustrating for all the new and casual American fans truing in to the World Cup games. They’re here out of National Pride, but it’s idiotic penalties like that and the other flopping and rolling around that causes them to not become permanent soccer fans. Don’t confuse World Cup American audiences with an audience that will watch that on a regular Thursday night in the MSL. These fans are here for America and that’s great. But the game still have major issues in America. I could write the same thing about the current NBA by the way.
Still, it’s great to see the USMNT get a knock-out stage win for the first time in 24 years and they did it looking spiffy. Those uniforms last night were awesome. Sorry, kits, for the hardcore fans. It would also be cool to see some sort of 1950s era throwback. Maybe in four years. . .
So, thank you USMNT for giving us some great and compelling sports to watch here in early July. Gets us closer to the All-Star break in MLB and then the start of NFL training camps. We’re gonna make it!
