The Saturday Column With No Name: Can Texas Tech Softball Recreate A Special Era In West Texas Sports Lore? Are The Rangers And Astros Really “Rivals”? Golf Is Hard, Ludvig Aberg Is Human…..

Brought to you in part by Golf USA, 67th and Indiana in Lubbock.

A few quick thoughts on a West Texas Saturday afternoon…

  1. Texas Tech Softball continues to make history, run-ruling Mississippi State Saturday 10-1 with a walk-off 3-run shot in the 6th inning. Question: Can this Texas Tech Softball program capture the imagination of Red Raider fans and West Texans the way Lady Raider Basketball did in the early-90s? Is Nijaree Canady there Sheryl Swoopes? The joy that college softball players bring to the diamond seems to be infectious. While the crowds follow? They’ll play Sunday to advance to a first-ever Super Regional for the program. The Rock will be rocking. Is this just the beginning? Stay tuned.
  2. All these years later and I still hate the fact that the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros are in the same division… I liked it much better when the Astros could be my default NL team and the idea of them meeting in the World Series dangled out there like a mythical happening. Now that they play countless times a year… it’s not special and no… I don’t consider it some hot rivalry even though many Rangers fans do. Oh, and I still hate inter-league play; so there’s that too…
  3. Ludvig Aberg missed the cut at Quail Hollow and the PGA Championship. Breaking news. Aberg is human and golf is hard. I’ll still roll with Luddie any and all Majors going forward.
