The Saturday Column With No Name

It’s Saturday and the column that actually has a name now is back!

It’s Super Hot and that’s OK because it’s late July and it’s West Texas. That’s how it should be. It allows us to look fondly forward to Fall and Winter and gridiron action and cursing the cold and whatnot. It’s what we do. We’re West Texans.

We’ve got a few things to get to today, so let’s get to them!

1. For all the Texas Tech fans bemoaning the number of athletes suing the NCAA and trying to play and the demise of college sports and whatnot because of that… remember that when Texas Tech MBB benefits greatly from at least one and perhaps two players suing to play college basketball again. Whether it’s the much-ballyhooed Jamichael Sitllwell from UCF or even former Red Raider Darrion Williams… Texas Tech hoops is betting on the courts to bail-out a roster that so far would not compete well in the Big 12 this coming season. So… when throwing those hubristic legal stones…. beware that Glass Arena.
2. We’re weeks away still, but it’s closer. Very close. I suppose it’s too much to ask for Texas Tech Football to have one great home uniform and one great road uniform plus one “Special Uniform” this year. Re-Establish the Real Double T and a great uniform. Make the “Special Uniform” actually special and only trot them out once a year…or once every two years. The Adidas uniforms have been great. Now embrace Culture and Tradition and yes, consistency. They’re work-clothes after all, not football costumes….
3. We talked about this earlier this week, but it’s worth repeating here. Gabriel “Señor Sack” Rivera is the greatest Texas Tech Football player that some/many of y’all never saw play. Any era. Any spot on the defense, maybe including cornerback, Rivera could have played it. He was just that good. The highlights do no justice, but here you go. . .
