Happy Tuesday, Y’all !
“The will be lawyers.” – @AndrewBrandt
Yes, the lawyers and the legal proceedings showed up in full force in Lubbock Monday afternoon as “current” Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby’s legal team filed an injunction trying to get the NCAA to expedite whatever ruling they will make on Sorsby’s future after he has admitted to betting on his own Indiana team along with countless other wagers over the past few years. This isn’t the end. Lot’s more to come.
There was a ton written on this Monday, we recommend starting with what Don Williams and Nathan Giese have put together at The A-J.
Texas Tech is not involved in the lawsuit. Texas Tech has declared Sorsby ineligible while at the same time petitioning the NCAA to restore that eligibility in a brief statement. Boilerplate that I assume Texas Tech would do in any ineligibility case.
The question this morning, and we touched on it a few weeks ago; when is Sorsby more of a liability and not worth the effort? That day could be coming very soon.
We find it no coincidence that nearly every time there is big Sorsby Betting News, there is a glowing update on the rehab of Texas Tech QB Will Hammond. That happened again on Monday and it kind of got glossed over in all the other news.
Remember, the only reason Texas Tech went QB shopping in the portal was because they didn’t think they have Hammond until at least midseason or perhaps not at all. If Hammond is ready to go, Texas Tech doesn’t need Sorsby. He’s not that big of a difference maker on this team.
So, we’ll pose the question today for Texas Tech fans, do you support Sorsby in his rehab and his future, but at the same time tell him it won’t be at Texas Tech? That can obviously be the case. Neither side is that invested in each other emotionally one would think in this transactional world of college sports…. harsh but true.
So, tell us what you think in the comments or on X or our Facebook Page.
