5 Things We Know On A Sunday

  1. There’s been a lot of talk about Age-Limits lately. I’m in agreement for the most part, and that’s all as I creep, and somedays go at much faster than a creep, towards those same age-limit numbers. I can support an age-limit for political office and even the Supreme Court. That said, I think I can also get behind the idea of an age-limit for voting. If you can’t Serve because of certain physical and mental limitations, should you be allowed to determine who does so? What’s more important? The people in office, or the mental/physical state of the people allowed to put them in office? So ya, let’s create both an age-limit for serving and voting in America.
  2. Your whole morning can change just by getting a friendly greeting at your favorite convenience store. Think about that impact. You know it’s true. 45-seconds of interaction can set a great tone. Now think about the tone you set in your 45-second interactions during the day. I need to make sure I can pass the “7-11 Test” when engaging with people during the day. Gonna try and do that this week. Plenty of time for me to make someone else smile.
  3. Top 3 Long-Gone Lubbock BBQ Joints: No.3. Great Scott’s BBQ on Tahoka Highway and 1585. Great food and you could sit out back and listen to live music. BYOB. Just set your beers in the fridge and folks left them alone. No.2. Stubb’s BBQ (2nd version on 19th & I-27). Again, BBQ and Live Music. No.1. The Original Stubb’s BBQ at 108 E. Broadway. Insert your own memories and stories here if you’re able to. You knew that would be No. 1, didn’t ya? Not sure how any others could crack the Top 3 this week.
  4. I can still, if needed to act in this capacity in an emergency, cue up a song to right at the beginning on an 8-Track Player in a car or truck. I also know the proper and professional way to cue up a record so there is no cue-burn. I doubt they are teaching these skills in our Public Schools today!
  5. One of the greatest lines Jimmy Buffett ever wrote? “I will never work in this business again”. His career captured that essence. When I heard that years ago I knew I was doing a lot of things wrong when it comes to the marriage of personal and professional life. All the time I have to remind myself to, ” never work in this business again”. When you figure that out about life, a lot of things fall into place. Some of y’all know exactly what I mean. For the rest of you, I hope one day you’ll understand. Thanks for the life lessons, the music and always being willing to share a little bit of yourself with us all. Sail On, Jimmy. Fins Up.
