5 Things We Know On A Sunday

1. The best Color/Favor Combo is Purple. Think about it. Even if you don’t know what flavor something is, if you go purple; you’ll probably be fine. Has anything Purple not tasted good? Nope. The biggest wildcard on Color/Flavor Combo? Yellow. Could be anything from bananas to squash. You just don’t know.
2. The NFL needs a John Madden or a Howard Cosell or anyone with any sort of personality desperately on their broadcasts these days. The games are great. The announcers are “fine”. But there is no “color” to the color commentary now. Folks today are afraid to be themselves, let alone be “controversial”. At this point, might at well have A.I. or that ChatGPT thing call the games. Was listening the other day and it sounded as dry as the E.A. Sports NFL game commentary on the computer. Then again, it was probably the same guy… Please, give us personalities again!
3. Top 3 Lubbock Mexican Food Restaurants That Should Come Back: No. 3 Gorditios. Multiple locations over the decades from the 90s on. Miss them. Always solid, straight-ahead Tex-Mex. No. 2. Martinez. Now, depending on who you ask and what year, you’ll get multiple responses here. I’m talking about the Martinez location just set-back from the Burger King off of 50th and Slide back in the mid-80s into the 90s. Legit stuff. Great soapapillas. At one point, they had free margaritas on Wednesday or something like that. It was a staple of Hyatt Family Dining in the 80s with Coach Hyatt. No. 1. Mi Tio’s on 74th and University. Been gone a few years. Great lunch, great supper, solid menu, quality beers and drinks and mariachi bands sometimes. It’s was just another little Lubbock place that didn’t get fancy, just always delivered great eats. The chips and salsa were superb. If anyone wants to make some money in Lubbock, bring back the 2.0 on these places and start printing money like an ATM!
4. Fair or not, every time I hear Nikki Haley speak I feel like I’m being lectured by an angry PTA Mom who wants to organize the drop-off and pick-up lines better at school. . . and then if we don’t agree with her, she’ll propose bringing in the UN to enforce order in the parking lot…
5. Unpopular Opinion: Whataburger is now just another chain selling burgers. They’re no longer special infused with Texas-Uniqueness. It’s just another burger now. Glad my Grandfather didn’t live to see it.
