5 Things We Know On A Sunday

  1. Long-time NFL head coach and former Texas Tech assistant coach Bill Parcells was a quote machine. One of his best? “It’s never your fault, but you’re always there”. We all know that person.
Whether it’s in our personal life, business dealings or politics, beware of That Guy. They’ll only bring
    you down with them.
  2. How dry has it been around our place the past year or so? So dry my wife hasn’t said one bad word about the mud the dogs have tracked in the last few days. Now she may have thought a few things, but she hasn’t said a word. That’s the daughter of a cotton farmer right there. . .
  3. Top 3 BBQ Side Dishes: No. 3. Cajun-Style Coleslaw. No.2. Smoker Beans. No.1. Cold Beer.
  4. It still bothers me when folks conflate Memorial Day with Veterans Day. I guess I should be happy they’re willing to honor our men and women who have worn the uniform, no matter their ignorance of the two observances. That said, there is no more solemn day than Memorial Day for our country. And yes, the word you’ll be looking for is “observe” not celebrate. It is not “Happy Memorial Day”. . .
  5. 50 years from now, the good folks of Lubbock are still gonna be having meetings and citizen input sessions regarding the brick streets downtown. Save a few at the cross-walks and be done with it. I’m a lover of history more so than most, but the so called “iconic” brick streets are merely a vestige of a time before we knew how to make quality roads. (if you drive around certain parts of Lubbock, this may be debatable still…) That Lubbock’s Leadership seems paralyzed to make any decisions on the downtown roads makes one wonder how they’re going handle a really tough choice.
