5 Things We Know On A Sunday
- My son attended his Junior Prom Saturday night. He and his date both looked wonderful. It served to once again remind me of the painful tuxedo game we had in the mid-late 80s. I apologize again to my wonderful friend and date for my own Junior Prom for my wardrobe. She looked lovely. I trusted them when they said gray and pink would look OK. . . Turned out pretty much white and bright pink…We didn’t know any better. Here’s to all the kids enjoying their Junior/Senior Proms this year! Y’all got lucky on fashion trends. Trust me!
- Meanwhile, back at the Prom. While we may have been challenged from a fashion stand-point in the mid-late 80s, I promise you our music killed whatever it is they’re trying to dance to right now. In fact, I should have just made an 80s Mix-Tape and given it to my son and told him to tell the DJ, “Play this”. I’ll put the 80s music up against any decade when it comes to Prom and danceable hits. Not that I could dance. Don’t get me wrong. But if I could have danced, I had great music to dance to.
- Top 3 Random Quotes For The Weekend: No. 3. “It was on fire when I lay down on it.”. No.2. “As I understood it, there would be no math.”. No.1. “So long, and thanks for all the fish.”.
- The Texas Legislature is in session right now, which means a few things. One, stay away from Austin. Two, you’re hometown is probably safer with all the politicos away from town for a few month. After that, we are reminded each day of the session how many un-serious folks we send down to Austin to make law. They things they come up with would be laughed out of most Student Council meetings. But it’s our own fault. We vote for these people. There was a reason they only wanted the Legislature to meet every other year when they cobbled together the Texas State Constitution. They knew what could happen if they met every year. Had to figure a way to limit the damage. This past week’s topper for Stupid was state rep. Jared Patterson from Frisco wanting to ban Lonesome Dove from high school libraries . Ban it? Hell we should mandate you can’t get a diploma from a Texas High School if you haven’t read Larry McMurtry’s masterpiece. So ya, please, only meet every other year and limit the damage!
- We got to talking on the radio show this week with Rob Breaux on Talk 103.9 FM in Lubbock about great movies we wish we could have seen on the Big Screen as intended in a theater with an audience. I’ve got more than a few, but I think John Wayne’s “The Searchers” might top my list. It was filmed on a grand scale as an epic American Tale. So, which movie do you wish you’d been able to see in a theater? For the record, my number two film is most likely “Smokey And The Bandit”. Another epic American Tale. Thanks, Hal Needham.
