5 Things We Know On A Sunday

1. It’s October 18 and I am already missing Holland Gardens in Lubbock. Still hate the fact you can’t just drop in and browse through the Christmas decorations, trees, and everything else. Was a great place for generations in Lubbock when it came to Christmas time and getting ready. So far, nothing comes close to replacing it. That’s a shame.
2. Has anyone ever changed their mind on who they were voting for over a Political Ad on TV/Radio? Anyone? They must work on some folks because we are inundated with them, even here in West Texas. As an aside, these ads are probably making the monthly sales goals for some TV/Radio sales people this month.
3. You know you’re getting older when 99% of the time you have no reason why your back is hurting, you’ve got some random bruise on your arm or knees ache. Some days, it’s just a matter of waking up and seeing what’s working and what’s not working. I miss the days when I at least knew my ankle hurt from playing basketball or my shoulder was sore from throwing the football or baseball around. Now…It’s all Mystery Ailments. The worst thing about that… no good stories to tell to your friends on why you’re walking funny!
4. If West Texas ever becomes its own state, Terry Allen’s “Amarillo Highway” should be the State Song.
5. I don’t eat there a whole lot, but when I do I am always impressed with the quality of the chips and salsa at Chili’s. That’s right. Chili’s. 50 years and still going great guns with one of the best restaurant success stories over the last few years. For some reason, makes me happy that a place that was one of the most popular spots in Lubbock when I was in high school is still doing it right and having success. See. The power of great chips and salsa. Others could take a lesson.
