5 Things We Know On A Sunday

1. There’s no better marketing for a business than having one of their employees smile at a customer and act like they’re glad you’re there. Just buying a Diet Coke at a convenience store the other day in Lubbock and the lady working the register treated me like I’d bought a steak dinner at a fine restaurant. It made my morning in just a few seconds of interaction with another person. A smile. How much are we giving away in our lives by not smiling enough at other folks? So literally, I had a Coke and a Smile.
2. I want to get on the committee that creates the National “______” Day that we all observe on Social Media and whatnot. Not sure who to talk to, but I’d be great. I have several National _____ Days I’d like to celebrate. National Roger Staubach Is Still The Greatest Dallas Cowboys QB Of All-Time comes to mind. National Free Fajitas Just For Asking Day is another one. I’m pretty sure I’d be good at writing greeting cards as well. If anyone knows how to make this happen, let us know. Meanwhile, on Monday, be sure to observe and celebrate National Jerry Clower Never Made A Record You Can’t Listen To At Church And You Should Listen To Him More Day.
3. If Artificial Intelligence is so smart, like I hear all the time…and it can change the world…why can’t A.I. figure out a way for the massive Data Centers that have to run the so-called really smart A.I. thing how to do it without using massive amounts of electricity and water? You’d think the smart folks would be working on that.
4. The smart fast food places will realize some day I don’t want them to be all things to all people. I want great fried chicken at KFC, I want great burgers at Burger King and I want America’s Roast Beef, Yes Sir at Arby’s. I’m not sure what I want at McDonalds other than good fries and a wickedly hot fried apply pie. So, advice to the fast food folks, focus and do great things in one area and I’ll stop by more often. Take a lesson from Rudy’s Country Store and BBQ. They do BBQ and a few sides and that’s about it. No sushi. No chicken pot pie. No Cobb salad. BBQ. BTW, more businesses should heed this warning. Plenty are trying to do too much and they stink at most of it and it keeps them from being great at something else.
5. If Facebook or Social Media didn’t exit, if e-mail weren’t around….how many folks in your life would you pick up the phone and call and chat with instead of just clicking “Like” and moving on from their life events? Guilty as charged right here. Gonna try and break that habit this week and when I see something online, instead of a “Like” gonna take time and make a “Call”. Who do you need to call this week? Don’t wait.
