I will admit it.
I’m gonna miss the World Cup. Even though the USMNT didn’t exactly go on a big run it was still a compelling event. From the fans loving America to the games being on during the day and night, it gave us some great Mid-Summer sports drama. We thank them for that. More on the World Cup in a moment, but first…real and actual Texas Tech news.
According to multiple reports, Texas Tech HC Joey McGuire was speaking this weekend at the Texas High School Coaches Association Convention (Coaching School) and confirmed that Texas Tech QB Will Hammond will be ready to go week one vs ACU. We’ve been expecting this since early May and now we feel certain Hammond will be out there for at least the first half of the games against ACU and at Oregon State. That’s exactly what you want and how you played it with Morton last season.
Hopefully Texas Tech’s defense and the revamped offense allows McGuire the ability to get Hammond just enough seasoning to feel good going into Houston in week three. The best thing about knowing this now for the staff is that Hammond can get all the reps with the first team and you don’t feel like you need to be putting Jack Francis in there, just in case. He can play the role he was brought to play, namely an aged veteran who can handle things in an emergency.
