On Tuesday Texas Tech officials announced that the Lobos will fill-in the blank spot on the schedule in 2027 after Tech had to dump the North Texas game.
It’s our contention that Texas Tech should never play a Lobo team. Ever. In any sport. For a variety of reason. Mainly, there’s no up-side and all it does is elevate UNM to a stage they shouldn’t be on. Add in the numerous contentious moments between the schools over the decades from coach ejections to fans treating a Lady Raider basketball player with scorn and hatred… well, we have our reason.
Also, New Mexico is just bad luck. Ask the Masked Rider in 1994….
So, for years we’ve said don’t play them yet Texas Tech continues to take the easy way out and schedule their neighbor to the West. If only Dirk West were around to draw us a carton of the mangy wolf with some apple cider and rubber tomahawks for sale….
Now, we love Red River and parts of Northern New Mexico. Heck, Clovis and Hobbs should petition to be annexed into the Great State of Texas, but UNM is a whole ‘nother deal.
Obviously Tech officials were in a bind. Which seems to be exactly when UNM shows up on a schedule. . . We would have much rather seen Texas Tech go with a better program, but late at night when you’re calling around… you do the best you can…
