Happy Thursday, Y’all !
Texas Tech made National Signing Day boring.
In a great way.
By the time lunch rolled around, Joey McGuire had secured the number one recruiting class in the Big 12 and at least the 19th best in the country. Winning is fun. It’s a shame NSD gets crammed into early December now. I don’t know what the perfect date is; the old first of February seems far too long-off in the calendar now, but maybe late December? I don’t know. Either way, it was cool to see Texas Tech continue to lap the field in the Big 12 talent-wise.
Meanwhile, this was NOT cool.
We can have rappers and other popular performers at Big 12 events, we can have artists most folks over 35 have never heard of, ( and that’s who buys the tickets… ) we can do all sorts of crazy things with food items, but we can’t have the Saddle Tramps and cow bells…. No that would ruin the atmosphere. Or something.
No Victory Bell. No Raider Red with shotguns. No fun. No Texas Tech Traditions. But be sure and shell-out 300 bucks or so to enjoy the “game”.
What are we doing here, Big 12?
This is another time for Texas Tech Athletics Director Kirby Hocutt and Texas Tech University President Dr. Lawrence Schovanec to be vocal, visible and raise a West Texas stink. Will it change anything by Saturday morning? Probably not. Could it change things for next year? Why not start now….
