Happy Tuesday, Y’all !
We were wrong.
We said that Big 12 Media Days might be a snooze fest with letter news generated. Thanks to an odd opening statement by Commissioner For Now Brett Yormark and then the media daring to ask about his and the rest of the conferences relationship with Texas Tech…things got testy and interesting. And we even got a little actual news out of Texas Tech HC Joey McGuire . . .
Obviously Yormark was trying to intimidate Sean Dillion and humiliate him by making him stand up to ask the question and repeat it. Why? Because Yormark knows Dillion is right. There is a double-standard right now in the Big 12 regarding Texas Tech. The league is suing Texas Tech. All of the questions were fair and factual. You be the judge.
As for the actual news, McGuire repeated said that he thought QB Will Hammond could be ready to go for game one against ACU. We’ve felt like that would be the case going all the way back to early May when the Sorsby guy got suspended and all of a sudden you saw all these videos and reports about Hammond being much farther along in his rehab than expected. None of those reports were out there by accident.
Hopefully Texas Tech will be able to get some early leads and get Hammond out at the half in the first two games, much like last year with Behren Morton. That would give Hammond plenty of reps going into the much ballyhooed Houston game in week three.
So after all of that, good luck beating Day One for action out of Frisco.
