Happy Thursday, Y”all !
Is this it for the much talked about, debated and kicked around “Protect College Football Act”?
This bill was always a 80-1 long shot. Just given the make-up of the Senate and the House these days, getting anything through is tough-sledding Even if the SEC and Big 10 give their approval to the revisions the schedule now in the Senate is gonna make it tough to get a floor vote. The House is another mess right now. With mid-terms coming up, quite frankly this is a low-priority bill. Even if just a few state reps in SEC or Big 10 country get the feeling their school doesn’t like the bill, no matter what the league says, you’re losing votes you can’t afford to lose. And of course, while President Trump has been behind the bill to an extent, he won’t want to sign-off on anything remotely controversial in key districts.
At the very least, this bill has forced the major actors in college sports to say what they want and what they want to do going forward. Can they get it? Will they do it. Who knows. But we are getting some clarity right now on a few issues and that’s always a good thing, as we wrote Wednesday.
We’ll discuss all of that, whatever Texas Tech news the day brings us and of course have another America 250 topic to celebrate with y’all tonight on The Daily Broadcast.
