We got a ton of moving parts today, but we’re rested and ready to go after another thriller brought to you by Texas Tech Softball.
Back to the CWS in a minute, but the day will begin with the first court hearing here in Lubbock in the Brendan Sorsby case against the NCAA. He’s seeking an injunction that will expedite the NCAA’s penalty against him, whatever that may be. I highly recommend your read the work done at Staking The Plains this morning by Seth. He’s a lawyer and knows exactly what matters and what doesn’t.
We learned a lot since Friday about this and none of it looks good for Sorsby when it comes to playing for Texas Tech this season. We maintain this all about getting some clarity for the NFL so teams know exactly what they’re getting into in the Supplemental Draft, if that’s the route Sorsby pursues. The quicker the NFL knows the penalty from the NCAA the quicker Commissioner Roger Goodell could come back with any stipulations for employment in the league for Sorsby… That will obviously affect the draft pick an NFL team is willing to expend this summer.
Meanwhile it looks like Texas Tech was well aware of the details on betting as far back as mid-April, yet waiting to declare Sorsby ineligible until last week. That’s another aspect Sorsby’s legal team is using, saying the Texas Tech delay hurt their client…. Again, none of this is good. For anyone.
We’ll delve into that tonight on The Daily Broadcast as well as preview Texas Tech Softball in another elimination game tonight at the CWS. Texas Tech takes on #1 Alabama at 6PM. If Texas Tech wins, they go right back at it in a second game with the winner going to the CWS Finals.
Texas Tech and UCLA had another epic game last night with Texas Tech winning 7-6 in 9 innings of work. Kailtlyn Terry was amazing in the circle and should never have been lifted in the 7th. The Gerry Glasco insistence on going back to Nijaree Canady last night, on a night she’d already given up a HR to one of UCLA’s top hitters nearly cost his team the season. Frankly, he out-thought the room and got away with it because of Terry and the rest of the team. Amazing stuff.
