Softball-Hangover Is Real!
How many of y’all were a little sluggish this morning after 41 outs of elimination softball drama thanks to Texas Tech and Alabama? It was pins and needles the whole time and it was worth it. That it seems to be driving the rest of the softball world nuts that Texas Tech has crushed the SEC so far on the way back to the CWS Finals makes it mean more…. So now it’s Texas Tech and Texas. Again.
Anyone remember their movie history?
This time around, Texas Tech Softball is Rocky. In the first movie, the gritty new challenger goes the distance against the heavy favorite and loses. In the rematch, Rocky comes out, refined and better and takes the Championship Of The World.
Texas Tech needs to be Rocky II this week in OKC!
ESPN should be sending Texas Tech thank you notes for providing real Non-SEC Drama that the rest of the country should embrace. Canady and Terry and Williams should be national folk heroes, not some sort of NIL Villain. We’ll see. Either way, cue that music!
Meanwhile in a Lubbock Courtroom, the Brendan Sorsby drama played out publicly for the first time. What did we learn? Not much that we didn’t know last week. Did it change our perception of what will happen? Nope. It still looks like Sorsby is done playing NCAA Football. And he should be. Texas Tech should also be distancing themselves fast and furious when it comes to Sorsby.
We’ll maintain all of the legal wrangling is to get Sorsby in the NFL Supplemental Draft with the NFL know exactly what they are buying. The NFL can and probably will issue some sort of punishment on Sorsby. How much will be the key and it will be based on whatever NCAA punishment is in place in ten days or so.
We expect this to move quickly. The facts are not in dispute. The judge in this case probably doesn’t want to overturn the ability of every sporting organization in America to punish players for betting on their own team, let alone their own sport. This is in place and has been in place for over 100 years of American sports. It’s the killer third-rail you can’t touch and Sorsby grabbed it like an ice cream cone. . .
This will go a quick appeal and then by the week of June 15 it will be over. And it should be from a Texas Tech perspective.
