5 Things We Know On A Sunday
- What’s going on with Cracker Barrel this week should be another lesson to all businesses. Just give the people what they want, not what you think they want or what your CEO thinks they should want or what folks who would never go to your business might want. The customers have told Cracker Barrel for decades what they like and what and Cracker Barrel betrayed them. Just like NASCAR did to their core fans. It’s simple. When you listen to your base, you win. When you listen to outside noise, you lose. In all businesses. By the way, the same message goes out to so many churches, denominations and other religious institutions. . . when you cater to folks who don’t like your core values to begin with, you’ll lose everything.
- The King Of The Hill reboot has exceeded all of my expectations. And I had high hopes. I’d love to see them come back every five or ten years and update us on the characters. Like getting that Christmas Card Family Newsletter back in the old days. You might have to wait six months, but you finally did find out how Aunt Ruth’s hip surgery turned out and that your cousin Mark is doing great in the Coast Guard. So, Mike Judge, let’s do this again in a few years and introduce us to Bobby’s kids.
- One of the most popular Facebook topics is the one where they ask folks, “What does Lubbock need the most?”. The better question, the more meaningful and interesting question to me is, “What does Lubbock need to get rid of the most?”. I have a few thoughts. I’d love to hear yours today. Post in the comments below what you think would make Lubbock better if we got rid of it. Addition by Subtraction. What might make my list…. folks riding bicycles on city and county roads where the speed limit is over 30MPH. First thing I’d ban if I were Lubbock King for a Day.
- It should be a lot easier to replace a brake light or tail light package on a truck these days. You’d think with modern technology things would get easier, not harder.
- My wife constantly reminds that Love is Patient and Kind. Two weeks ago my Mother broke her leg. No weight-bearing for six weeks so she moved in with our family for the duration. She’s doing great, but still has to have a lot of help getting anywhere. The love and care my wife has shown blows me away, but it shouldn’t. That’s just who she is. I have amazing respect for all the care-givers out there. You are special people with a gift. Thank you, Tessa!
