The first game of the college football season is in the books and we feel great! Thanks for dropping by on a Saturday. Hope the weekend is off to a great start and that you’re nearly Game Week Ready for Texas Tech Football. Much work to be done this weekend to make next week right. We hope the team is taking it as seriously as y’all are in Raiderland!
Here’s some random Saturday thoughts.
- I hope Texas Tech never, ever, ever plays a game overseas. I’d hate to see Texas Tech play a meaningful Big 12 game in week one. Particularly in the era of high-transfer rates, teams more than ever need a couple of weeks to get to know each other and iron out a few kinks that you just can’t simulate in practice. Aside from that, I think it’s unfair to take away a home conference game from any fan base. Said that twenty years ago when they first started talking about taking Texas Tech and Texas A&M to a neutral site in Dallas. Hated it when they did it with Baylor. Why spend hundreds of millions of dollars on your stadium and then tell folks they have to go to Ireland to watch them play? So, if you’re listening Kirby Hocutt, never let Brett Yormark pimp out a Red Raider game to someplace else.
- One more plea to all the networks showing college football. Scroll the scores at half-time, with the bands playing and marching in the background. Split-screen it. I don’t care. Give fans less meaningless blather by the studio hosts and more of what they’re missing at the game. The network that does this will see half-time viewership go up.
- I can’t tell you what the hottest temperature in the month of September will be, but I can tell you when it will happen. Write it down. Lubbock will recorded its hottest temperature at 2PM on September 6 right as Texas Tech and Kent go into the 4th quarter or so. Heck, make it a Black Out game and let’s find out how tough fans are in the early season. Please. Night games only in September. Start hydrating now.
Alright. Enjoy the rest of Saturday and we’ll see you in the morning with our 5 Things We Know On A Sunday column. For those new to Raiderland, each Sunday we take a look at all things non-sports. Fire away in the comments today on your thoughts about our thoughts and then be sure and share with your friends!

Maybe do the same thing for their men’s basketball games with most, if not all of the home games being against less than stellar teams and an expectation the Lubbockites will support this. Amazing if they do. At least Tad tries to bring in decent non-conference competition.
