5 Things We Know On A Sunday

  1. Fact. Grown men wearing college or pro football jerseys are exactly the same as grown men dressing up like characters from Star Trek or Star Wars. So just embrace it. But, know that it is true. . .
  2. Of all the most Made-Up Holidays in America, Labor Day is the most Made-Up.” Hey! We need something to spur the economy. What can we do? How about throw a bone to the workers and give them Monday off and call it Labor Day? That sounds really like socialism? Just go with it and spend some money here at the end of Summer! OK, that sounds more like the Capitalism we love!”
  3. You know you live in West Texas if you can remember precisely the last two or three times it rained out your house and how much rain you got.
  4. How much of a good thing is too much? Right now Texas Tech has a good problem. Too many students. With Texas Tech’s enrollment now sitting around 45,000 students ( up a mere 20K since I graduated ) students are facing massive infrastructure and logistical problems. In other words, there ain’t no where to park or live. Texas Tech’s success no leads it to another step in the growth of any great school. It’s time for Texas Tech to limit enrollment numbers. At least until the school can make it reasonable for students to get to class without a helicopter, Texas Tech should cap enrollment now and start building more dorms and much more convenient parking areas. The upside also comes in the form of increased competition. I’d love to wake up one day and find out my H.S. transcript and test scores would have made it hard for me to get into Texas Tech. Cap it and get better!
  5. When you’re cooking out today or Monday on this Made-Up holiday weekend, here’s a Pro-Tip for your menu. Get a couple of packages of Polish Kielbasa and cut them up into nice little bites. Then, take a dozen or so small limes, cut them up and squeeze that wonderful lime juice onto the sausage. Wrap all the contents up in foil and let it heat up on your grill at a nice low heat. Perfect appetizer. Your friends and family will love it. You’re welcome.
