5 Things We Know On A Sunday

  1. There may be no greater camaraderie than that shared by men standing in the “greeting card” aisle at the grocery store a few days before Valentine’s Day trying to find the exact right card for their wife or girlfriend. We’re under pressure, time is running out and at the end of the day; we know we’re gonna pick a card we think she’d like but it’s really a card we think is funny or good. Us fellow combatants exchange knowing glances as we look at a card and then put it back… What about the one with cats drinking wine… is that good? Maybe we go serious this year… we don’t know. Ladies… just be glad we fought the battle of the card aisle and got a card instead of getting the gift card to Buffalo Wild Wings we thought about for half-a-second …. Hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day!
  2. Our fascination with the “Nancy Guthrie” story is telling. There’s no telling how many kids/adults are missing right now on the South Plains and here in West Texas. From runaways to human trafficking and more. We don’t know any of their names and they aren’t on the local news each night with breathless anchors and analysts trying to determine and decide what may have happened. Why is that? Is it easier to “care” about a story far away or one involving a celebrity you don’t know than it is to invest your emotions and energy on folks right here around you in your community? I don’t know. . . Either way, we see this all the time. Folks will go on mission trips thousands of miles away when just a few blocks over… folks need help. Hopefully the “Nancy Guthrie” story will remind folks they might just want to focus on things going on in their own town as much as Pima County, Arizona….
  3. Top 3 Worst Love Songs For Valentine’s Day: No. 3. “Paradise By The Dashboard Light” – Meatloaf. No. 2. “Love Stinks” – J. Geils Band. No. 1. “Why Don’t We Get Drunk” – Jimmy Buffett.
  4. Fact. You younger fellas need to pay attention here. When staying in is better than going out… you know you’ve got a good relationship. Doesn’t mean you never go out… just means what it means. You’ll figure it out.
  5. It’s a highly debated scientific theory that if at any given time, if any man has all of the laundry done and sorted and put up, all of the dishes clean and out of the dishwasher and put away and has also made sure his wife’s truck has wiper fluid and the inspection stickers are done before expiration… that if this ever happens the theory is that the universe will self-destruct. To this day the universe has not self-destructed. Good luck, Guys and thank you Douglas Adams!

  1. I think Nancy’s story is interesting because it peels back the curtain on how these investigations work. Its never usually someone who knows how to work that system that has it happen to them. Like remember the Thomas Mac case? That only got traction because Tony Busbee started talking about how the sherrif was having gay sex with him and kept his name in the headlines. Honestly its not that we dont want to follow. Its that local news only has so much that it can follow due to people and budgetary constraints.
