Is it getting a little colder out there in Big 12 Country this week?
We’re not talking about the July temps, which are about to hit 100 here in West Texas later this week. We’re talking about what’s coming out of SEC Media Days this week.
On Monday, it was announced that LSU is cancelling a series with Arizona State set for 28-29. While it seems simple enough, LSU blaming having to play 9 SEC games now, it might not be that simple. What’s the best way to isolate and hinder another league?
Don’t play them.
We saw the SEC lead the way in doing this to Texas Tech Softball last season. The SEC wanted to punish Texas Tech and their RPI so they froze them out. Are we seeing the same thing starting now in football? It’s fair to ask a day after the SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said talk of the league breaking away from the NCAA is real.
When folks tell you who they are, believe them.
All of this is going on against the backdrop of the SEC and Big 10 pushing politicians to change major details in the Protect College Sports Act. We still think that bill is D.O.A. but when you see the leagues pushing to expand to 19 teams…with the caveat that the new team would have to be independent for 5 years…that sure sounds like language to bring in Notre Dame if they want to…doesn’t it. Setting thing up at 19 for SEC and Big 10 and just leaving the rest behind… If they want to. It sure sounds like that’s what they want doesn’t it.
