Happy Thursday, Y’all !

And you just thought it was gonna be a boring week before college football finally cranks up…

With all the chaos of NFL players attempting to return to college football, we saw something amazing. Maybe.

We saw colleges actually create rules, with penalties and look like they’re willing to enforce them. Big 10 went first banning pros returning and then the SEC followed suit with the Big 12 looking like they’re doing something similar. All within a few days. All without congress. That’s right, they created and brought enforcement to their own sports. All without Ted Cruz.

Amazing isn’t it.

I’m old enough to remember when we were told they couldn’t do this and it all had to be done at the federal level.

Guess not.

Now, will there be lawsuits? Of course. It’s 2026. That’s what will happen. Some athletes will sue the conferences, no doubt. Will they win? Who knows at this point. The bigger take-away is that the schools handled it themselves. Remember that the next time they scream about the need for new laws.

As for the impact on Texas Tech, the biggest question now become Donovan Atwell retiring to Texas Tech MBB. If he didn’t sign a contract with the NBA this Summer he might still have a chance reading what the Big 12 released. It will be tough argument but Tech may be able to claim it was merely a try-out, much like a pre-draft workout. He didn’t “declare” for the draft since he was out of eligibility at the time so it’s not like an underclassmen making the move. Very interesting case and we won’t be shocked to still see him in a Red Raider uniform come November. Stay tuned.

We’ll talk about all of this, the latest from Texas Tech Football and whatever else the day brings us tonight LIVE at 5:30 on The Daily Broadcast.
