Southwest Conference Power Rankings – Week 7
The Southwest Conference Power Rankings have returned with a vengeance this season. The points system is simple and merit based on opponents, covering the point spread, and actual wins.
The Points System
Win: 10 points
Covers Spread: 5 points
P5 win: 4 points
Road win: 3 points
G5 win: 2 points
FCS win: 1 point
1st TCU 6-0 (128) +19
The Frogs won another game where the opposing quarterback was injured going into or during the game. TCU has run a lucky streak this season and some fans are waiting for that luck to run out and the traditional late season swoon from a Sonny Dykes coached team that we’ve seen at La. Tech and Cal. Points should be deducted from TCU with their childish games involving the sale of football tickets, but we’re not petulant children here at The Raiderland.
Next Game: at West Virginia
2nd Texas 5-2 (91) +0
The Longhorns struggled and blew yet another double-digit lead on the road, this time against Oklahoma State. The narrative of “Texas being undefeated if Quin Ewers were healthy” was quickly laid to rest after the last two games.
Next week: Open Date
3rd Rice 4-3 (75) + 15
The Owls earned a road win at Louisiana Tech in overtime and now get a favorable home game against hapless UNC-Charlotte..
Next week: vs. Charlotte
4th Baylor 4-3 (74) +19
The Bears bounced back to defeat Kansas, but looked lackluster in the second half. A tough road trip to Lubbock is this week and its a night game where weird things happen..
Next week: at Texas Tech
5th Houston 4-3 (72) +20
The Cougars were tough in a 38-20 road win at Navy and now face a favorable schedule to finish the regular season with a 9-3 record and potentially get another American Conference Title game berth.
Next week: vs. USF
6th Arkansas 3-3 (52) 0
The Hogs have an opportunity to also finish 9-3 with LSU and Ole Miss visiting Fayetteville and road games against Auburn and Mizzou.
Next week: at Auburn
7th Texas Tech 4-3 (66) +19
The Red Raiders curb stomped West Virginia 48-10 and delivered a fourth home win for Joey McGuire in year one at the helm of the Tech Football program and a win over Baylor will give Tech their most home wins in nearly a decade.
Next week: vs Baylor
8th Texas A&M 3-4 (47) 0
The only thing I need to mention is that Jimbo Fisher’s buyout is $86 million for contract that runs through 2031.
Next week: vs. Ole Miss
9th SMU 3-4 (48) +5
The Mustangs gave it their all against Cincinnati and now face a road game at Tulsa. SMU still have a rather difficult schedule with Houston, Tulane, and Memphis ahead.
Next week: vs. Cincinnati
