Happy Friday, Y’all !

The Big 12 Media Days may be over, but the fall-out from Frisco rolls on this week as more and more quotes and stories come out regarding the league, where coaches feel things are on a competitive nature with NIL and much more. Always with the more.

As far as competition, it seems like some coaches are flat out giving up when it comes to keeping up with the Joneses or Jones Stadium for that matter. Take the comments from Baylor’s Dave Aranda and TCU’s Sonny Dykes in an On3.com interview.

“There’s all these metrics they have,” Baylor coach Dave Aranda said here at Big 12 media days. “Home field, margin of victory, injuries, all these things. But the thing they don’t have is, dude, there are teams spending $30-40 million on rosters playing teams spending $15 million. It’s the minor leagues versus pro.”

“We’ll be around $20 million,” said TCU coach Sonny Dykes, who was part of the small circle of coaches in the spring discussing the situation. “I really do have the best job in college football. That’s the only negative. It’s just going to be hard to get back to the national championship game with that.”

“Why not institutionalize something like a luxury tax?” asked Dykes. “Problem is, this money is coming under the table and not being reported. It’s against the rules, but if they did something like (a luxury tax), it wouldn’t be a bad thing. If Texas wants to spend $50 million, pay $75 million and give $25 million to Iowa State and Kansas State.”

“I wish we had it where everybody spent equal,” Houston coach Willie Fritz said. “Certain people don’t want to do it that way and I don’t think it’ll ever change.”

It’s a great read and worth your time because it tells you where the rest of the league is. They don’t want to elevate. They want to drag Texas Tech down. Texas Tech Board of Regents Chairman Cody Campbell is right to say that Texas Tech wants the other schools to do what Texas Tech has done. They can do it too and they know it. But they aren’t committed. The question becomes why?

In the meantime, we’ll continue to see folks in the Big 12 take shots at Texas Tech because they’re more interested in doing that than winning.

We’ll be taking tonight off from the Daily Broadcast but you can still kill some time at work this morning if you missed the Thursday night show. It was really worthy of being watched twice anyways with all the great viewer questions and comments. So here ya go!

Even with no show, we’ll still be hanging out with you on Twitter/X and the growing and engaging Raiderland Facebook Page.
Make sure you drop by today! We’ll be back with our Saturday Column With No Name and our Sunday column as well.

Most Texan Thing

Each Friday we ask y’all one simple question. Actually two now, but we’ll get to that in a moment.

What’s The Most Texan Thing You Did This Week?

Big or small, the world needs more Texans doing more Texan things. We love hearing your stories so post away here on the site or on Social Media. Some of the best ones come from Texans living abroad, so don’t be bashful! So far, ours might be driving around the South Plains in a truck with no AC. Don’t ask. It’s a long story. But, it gets you in touch with your grandparents and other pioneers. We did some quick research and it wasn’t until the late sixties that more than 50% of American made cars and trucks came with AC. Think on that for a bit. We’re getting soft!

Now, go do something Texan, it’s not too late and then report back here.

What Did You Learn This Week

On to the aforementioned second question…

In honor of our friend Chad Hasty, we now ask one of his famous show topics from over the years on Friday.

What Did You Learn This Week?

From sports to life in general, what did you learn this week?

We learned that the rest of the world really doesn’t want America to get great at soccer and that the rest of the Big 12 is the same way when it comes to Texas Tech. They don’t want Texas Tech to get great, they want them to be average like they are…

We also learned that our friends at Buns Over Texas are still making great burgers and fries!

And finally, we learned that it’s more than ok to get to bed slightly before the sun goes down this time of year and get a great night of sleep. Try it sometime!

Do it for Chad! Tell us what you learned this week!
