5 Things We Know On A Sunday

  1. America needs Hee-Haw. We’ve said it before. One of the problems in America today is so few shared experiences. America would be a better country immediately if there was just one show we all watched, each week. We don’t do that anymore. Nothing in common. We need a great show, something fun that we can all sit-down and watch together. Parents and kids, lefties and righties and all the in-betweeners. We need a show we can share a joke from the next day at church or school or work and not worry about offending someone. I nominate Hee-Haw. Bring it back. What do y’all think? What should we all watch!
  2. Hot dogs taste better outside. Hamburgers taste better indoors. This is science. Neither is good at a movie theater or a basketball game.
  3. Top 3 TV Game Shows All-Time (RIP, Bob Barker): No. 3 The Price Is Right. Standard setter, long-run, Bob Barker and Price Is Right Models. What more do you want on a sick-day? No. 2. Jeopardy. Trebek. No.1. Match Game. 70s. Best Ever. No competition.
  4. You know you’re in West Texas when you’re at a reception of newlyweds and the pastor ask the Good Lord for rain before getting on with the blessing of the couple. It’s been that kind of summer.
  5. Every day it seems I’m hit with social media posts or media-types asking “What ____ does Lubbock need?” Hey, I’m guilty of it myself. Been doing it for years on the old Cultural Index Question and more, on radio and right here on this site. That said, perhaps we’re asking the wrong question. I think the question today should be, “What does Lubbock need Less of or not at all?”. Sometimes, less is more when it comes to quality and enjoyment. I’m pretty sure Lubbock is at that stage in many areas. So what do you think Lubbock needs less of?
