5 Things We Know On A Sunday

  1. A hot dog is not a sandwich and a sandwich is not a hot dog. It’s simple. Ask a kid if they want a hot dog. Then give them a sandwich and see what happens. They know. Same deal, if a kid asks for a sandwich, give them a hot dog and watch the reaction. A hot dog is no more a sandwich than chili is a soup.
  2. Every Major League Baseball team should be playing a double-header on July 4th with a massive fireworks show after the second game. In between games, you’ve got apple pie and hot dog eating contests, kids get to run the bases and the best local military band shall assemble in the outfield and play patriotic music. Also, all concession stand prices are rolled-back to where it’s a dollar or so for everything. Baseball is the only sport that can take over Independence Day and own it. Do it and watch fans flock.
  3. Top 3 Founding Fathers: No. 3. Samuel Adams. Brewer. Patriot. What more do you want to describe America? No. 2. Thomas Jefferson. Writes the Declaration of Independence, serves as President and founds a university then dies on July 4th. Not bad. No. 1. George Washington. Kicks British butt, turns down title and kingship, serves two terms as president and then calls it a day and goes back home. America!
  4. Every American should watch the opening scene from ”Patton” every July 4th weekend. Probably several times.
  5. The United States of America’s Constitution and Bill of Rights is still the greatest documented written by man. America is still a shining city on a hill. America was and is exceptional. One can have vast and divergent opinions over the state of the nation, political discourse and other challenges, but I’ll disagree vehemently with anyone who says America is not the single best instrument for liberty and justice that the world has ever seen on a governmental level. America lapped the field years ago and it’s OK to say it. May God Bless America.
