5 Things We Know On A Sunday
- The word you’re looking for this Memorial Day Weekend is “observe”. Respect works right in. “Celebrate” is not the right word. We respectfully honor and observe the sacrifices of the men and women who laid the last full human measure upon the altar of Freedom for The United States of America. Enjoy the time with your family and friends. But remember, this is the most solemn of all the American holidays that exist. Without it… no other holiday of an American nature would be able to be celebrated today.
- As we have fewer and fewer families involved in military service compared to years past, it becomes more and more important to support, celebrate and honor the families who do have loved ones serving. Support politicians who support our military, support and encourage our politicians to do all the can to make the Veterans Administration The Model of health care and support in America. It’s should be and it’s the very least we can do for those who have worn our country’s uniform at home and abroad.
- If you have a loved one who gave their life serving America… feel free to post a little bit about them and honor them here on our site or our our Facebook page or Twitter Feed. We need to make real the sacrifice by telling their stories. Never feel bad about celebrating them on Social Media or telling your kids or grandkids about a relative they never knew, but owe all to. They’ll thank you later in life.
- It seems trite, it seems almost profane, but there are some great movies you can watch on Memorial Day Weekend that encapsulate both the horror of war and the valor of those who endured it for us. I have several on my list, and I’m sure most of y’all have seen them. . . but I’ll offer up “Glory”, “A Bridge Too Far”, “Saving Private Ryan”, The entire series of “Band of Brothers”, “Platoon”, “The Patriot” and “The Big Red One”. All good. All with a glimpse into not just war, but them men and women who were called to prosecute them to save our country.
- I’ll leave you with the words of of President Ronald Reagan from Memorial Day 1982 at Arlington National Cemetery. In my humble opinion we need more of this. Not less in America today. God Bless those who gave all, God Bless the families who gave us those men and women and God Bless America.
